Training Issues in SMEs

Training for employees in small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) has traditionally not been available on a large scale. There are many reasons cited for this, predominantly to do with awareness, perceived relevance and market issues. The matter has attracted a lot of research in recent years, and the government is now focusing significant time and money on expanding the opportunities available to SMEs.

Training has been recognised as an indispensable part of employee development, and steps are being taken to develop offerings specific to the needs of SMEs. Training packages are available that are industry specific, and allow the individual to obtain relevant qualifications in their chosen profession.
